Ukraine has managed to retrieve only 125 out of 13,899 children who were illegally deported to Russia, reported Daria Herasymchuk, Ukraine’s commissioner for children's rights and child rehabilitation.

“It seems to be very small, but behind each number is the fate of a Ukrainian child, such an important child,” the official stressed. Herasymchuk also recalled that throughout the full-scale war, 459 children were killed in Ukraine as a result of Russian aggression. Another 909 children were wounded.

In early January, governor of the Luhansk region Serhii Haidai said that the Russians had kidnapped 300 children from Donbas to Moscow under the guise of “treatment for serious injuries.” According to him, Russian medics examined young boys and girls in almost every city of the occupied Luhansk region. They were taken to Moscow by special transport or air ambulance.
