A fire has occurred on board the Admiral Kuznetsov cruiser, currently docked at the Zvezdochka shipyard in the northern port of Murmansk. Commissioned in early 1991, the Admiral Kuznetsov is currently Russia’s only aircraft carrier.

“A fire outbreak occurred on board the Admiral Kuznetsov, which is drydocked at the Zvezdochka shipyard. There were no casualties. Twenty crew members were evacuated,” TASS reports citing a source in rescue services.

As Alexei Rakhmanov, the head of the United Shipbuilding Corporation, specified later, the fire (which was a minor incident, according to him) was quickly put out.

“The ship's damage control system responded immediately, so there have been no losses or damage,” stated Rakhmanov.

In 2019, there was another fire on the aircraft carrier because of waste that the crew had failed to timely remove.
