Photographer and documentary filmmaker Max Levin killed in Ukraine

Illustration

A well-known Ukrainian photographer and documentary filmmaker, Maxim Levin, was killed near Kiev. His body was found by the police on April 1, Levyi Bereg reports.

Contract with Levin was lost on March 13. According to Levyi Bereg, Levin, accompanied by a military serviceman and former photographer Alexei Chernyshov, traveled to Guta Mezhigorskaya to record the consequences of Russian aggression. Since then, neither of them made any contact. Later it was reported that intense hostilities had broken out in the area where Levin was supposed to work, during which he could have been wounded or captured. Alexei Chernyshov's whereabouts are still unknown at this time.

For more than 10 years Maxim Levin worked for Levyi Bereg and also cooperated with Reuters, BBC, TRT World, Associated Press, and Hromadske. Photographs he took were published by Wall Street Journal, Time Magazine, Breaking news Poland, EU Agenda, World News, The Moscow Times, Korepostent.net, Elle, TV-24, Radio Bulgaria, Ukraine Crisis Media Center, Vatican News, Radio Liberty (RFE/RL).

Most of Levin's documentary projects are related to the war in Ukraine.

Thirteen journalists have already been killed in the war.

One of the victims is The Insider's journalist Oksana Baulina. She died under fire in Kiev while on editorial assignment. Oksana was filming the devastation left by the Russian troops after the shelling of the capital's Podil district and was hit by a new round of rocket fire. Another civilian was killed with her (his name was not disclosed), and two people accompanying her were wounded and hospitalized.
