Estonia detains University of Tartu professor suspected of collaboration with Russian special services

Russian national Viacheslav Morozov, a professor at the University of Tartu, has been detained in Estonia on suspicion of working for Russian security services, ERRreports. Details of the suspicions are not disclosed, but the fact of Morozov's detention was confirmed to the portal by the Estonian Internal Security Service (ISS). Morozov has been in Tallinn Prison since Jan. 3, and the university has announced the termination of his employment.

Viacheslav Morozov worked as a professor of political science at the Skytte Institute of the University of Tartu.

According to the Estonian Research Information System (ETIS), Morozov was affiliated with St. Petersburg State University up to 2010 before joining the University of Tartu. He focused on EU and Russian studies from 2016 to 2023 and assumed the post of professor of international political theory on Sept. 1, 2023.
