Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) has detained another alleged participant in the attempted assassination of Lt. Gen. Vladimir Alexeyev, according to reports by state-controlled news agencies RIA Novosti and TASS, both of which cite the FSB’s press service.
The newly detained suspect was identified as Pavel Vasin. He is the son of Viktor Vasin, who was detained earlier in the same case.
Investigators said the younger Vasin helped the other alleged accomplices by providing cars for surveillance and for retrieving weapons from a cache. Officials also claimed that Pavel Vasin had bought a dash camera and a tracker that were used to monitor the general.
TASS published a video of the detainee. In it, he claims he was recruited in September 2025 by Lyubomir Korba, the alleged gunman who fired four shots at Alexeyev.
The agency said the younger Vasin gave a confession and also reported that surveillance was carried out on two other Defense Ministry employees.
Over the weekend, Russian authorities reported that they had detained Viktor Vasin, Pavel’s father, along with Korba, who was extradited to Moscow after fleeing to Dubai. Korba, the FSB said, was recruited by Ukraine’s SBU security service. Another suspected accomplice, Zinaida Serebritskaya, left Russia and was put on a wanted list.
The attempt on the life of GRU deputy chief Lt. Gen. Vladimir Alexeyev took place on the morning of Feb. 6, when he was ambushed on a stairwell inside his apartment building as he was leaving for work. The gunman fired four shots, and Alexeyev sustained wounds in the abdomen, chest, and limbs. He was taken to intensive care and regained consciousness after undergoing emergency surgery.
